A Rose for Emily

A Rose for Emily was written based on life after the Civil War. In this story I think Miss Emily is a woman who doesn’t like change at all. When her father died, it was like she had nothing left to live for. I can relate to that also and it is very tough to lose someone that close. She hid from everyone and everything for years. All she had was her servant for contact to the outside world. Her house was never changed on the outside or inside. She did end up meeting a man named Homer Baron. She now had a man in her life to be there for her. I found it weird and ironic that when she had finally went out in public that she went to go buy arsenic. She obviously wanted him dead as well. In the end of the story Emily finally passes in her house by herself, so everyone thought. After her burial, the townspeople searched her house and they found Mr. Baron’s body up in the attic of the house. He hadn’t been the only one laying there though. There was an indent of someone else’s head with gray hair on the pillow next to him. It was a different but very good ending.
