This story is difficult to understand from the begining. From my personal view, I think the man was apologising to his wife from the first paragraph for runing the airplane into the family silo they have owned for a long time, and the wife was advising him to see a doctor but he was just worried about the destroyed silo.
And the reminder of the story talks about how the man struggle when he tried to operate the plane. I don't like this story, it's kind of backwards and difficult to follow.
